ICRP and ICNIRP Exchange Views on Radiological Protection Principles

2014-07-04

At a meeting on June 27 in Geneva, organised by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), ICNIRP and ICRP had an opportunity to discuss similarities and differences in the principles underlying the systems of protection for ionising and non-ionising radiation.  ILO, IRPA, UNSCEAR and WHO representatives also attended.

The results of this meeting will assist an ad hoc Project Group updating the ICNIRP Statement of 2002 on the "General approach to protection against non-ionizing radiation".

Following this fruitful exchange, both Commissions have decided to continue the reflection on the scientific and ethical foundations of the two systems of protection.
