In 1959, John became a member of ICRP after joining Committee 5. Joining the Main Commission of ICRP in 1977, John went on to be the principal author of ICRP 1990 Recommendations as well as Publication 22 and the creation of the ALARA principle. In 1997, John left the Main Commission and became an Emeritus Member of ICRP.
