ICRP Main Commission Meeting
1952 September 15 Stockholm, Sweden
The Commission held a discussion regarding the status of the ICRP as a subordinate body to the International Congress of Radiology (ICR) and the scope of the work of the ICRP. The following decisions were reached:
- The Commission should not be reconstituted as an independent body of the ICR
- The scope of ICRP work should include industrial as well as medical applications
- An executive committee of ~12 members should be created
The Commission received updates on reports related to Protection against x-rays, beta rays, gamma rays, heavy particles, permissible dose of external radiation, and disposal of radioactive wastes. The reports are all nearing completion and are set to be reviewed by members of the committees. These reports will provide a basis upon with the International Sub-Committee can prepare its recommendations.
The Commission discussed values for maximum permissible dose levels for external radiation but no decision was reached, opting instead to leave the old values in place. The Commission did consider that high single doses and dose rates should be classified as emergency cases.
It was noted that for
Standard Man the potassium value appeared to be .22% instead of .35% as previously stated.
