The proposed changes to the Commission’s Rules, with the purpose of conforming with new rules of ISR, were approved.
The Commission received work progress updates from the Main Commission Task Groups. Draft reports were expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
The Commission reviewed and adopted the following reports pending minor edits:
• Non-stochastic effects of ionising radiation
• Protection of the patient in radiation therapy
• Compilation of major concepts and quantities used by ICRP
• Principles of monitoring for radiation protection of the population
• Protection of the public in the event of radiation accidents
The Commission was presented work progress updates from Committees 1-4.
C1 – Updates to numerous reports was given about several projects relevant to C1 related to effects done to organs and development from radiation.
C2 – The majority of discussion was on the topic of the development of ICRP Lung Model and on Reference man. Funding and size of TGs was confirmed.
C3 – Progress updates on several reports concerning medical radiation protection to patients and medical professionals was presented to the Commission. Additional advertisement for ICRP publications with respect to the medical industry was requested of Pergamon.
C4 – Work updates were made with respect to the Report on Waste Disposal and revision of several ICRP publications.
The Commission agreed to continue its work with four standing Committees and reaffirmed that their past research objectives would continue to be their primary areas of focus for the future.
The Commission approved Drs. Benison and Jammet as Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the Main Commission respectively.
The Commission decided that two meetings would be necessary in 1985 due to the large amount of reports scheduled for final presentation and possible adoption for publication.
Liaison activities with ICRU were discussed and the Commission received notice that an ICRP/ICRU joint task group would be meeting in June. The Commission agreed that ICRP seminars to be conducted at the International Congress of Radiology would be targeted towards radiologists and others likely to attend the Congress.
