The Commission agreed to several changes to the draft recommendations (1990) related to improving clarity and readability in the document with respect to the Annexes.
The Commission were presented the following reports for the purpose of approving for publication or providing recommendations for improvement:
• The Biological Basis for Dose Limitation in the Skin
• Exposure of Humans to Ionising Radiation in Biomedical Research
• Secondary Limits Derived for the 1990 Recommendations
Of these reports, the former 2 were considered unsuitable for approval for publication due to the need to answer critical questions and lack of clarity regarding key ideas presented in the report. The latter report was approved for publication provided that the minor editorial changes suggested were implemented.
The Commission received the following work progress reports from Committee Chairmen:
C1- The Committee is currently reviewing several reports with relation to risk estimations of cancer from radiation doses in adult humans and different organs in the body. The reports were agreed not to be published in the Annals under the named authors, not as ICRP publications.
C2 – The Commission endorsed the decisions of the Committee with relation to addition of new elements for dose calculation and expansion of TG on Age Dependent Dosimetry. The Commission did not agree on the formation of a TG to address external doses delivered to populations of different ages. The Commission approved suggested revisions to Publication 30 including exclusion of separate data lists for males and females and that dose should be averaged to a tissue or organ except with regards to sensitive cells.
C3 – The Commission agreed that data on new radiopharmaceuticals should be introduced as they enter the market. Publication 53 should not be updated on an annual basis.
No ICRP Publications will be issued by Pergamon Press in 1990 with the exception of a possibility of Risk Papers from C1.
The next Commission meeting is scheduled for Vienna 1991.
