Main Commission Meeting St Petersburg 1999

Summary

The Main Commission of the ICRP met in St. Petersburg Russia from September 5th-9th 1999.

The Main Commission approved for publication a report on Protection of the Public in Situations of Prolonged Radiation Exposure. The report goes into detail on exposure situation involving the long term storage of radioactive waste from numerous types of radiation applications. The full report can be found in ICRP Publication 82.

Also approved for publication was a report on Radiation Protection Recommendations as Applied to the Disposal of Long-Lived Solid Radioactive Waste. The report includes details on the relative risk of storing radioactive waste for long periods of time. Subjects such as human intrusion and terrorist action are discussed in the report. The full report can be found in ICRP Publication 81.

Roger H. Clarke is re-elected as ICRP Main Commission chairman for the 2001-2005 term.
