The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award Professor Bo Lindell the gold medal of Radiation Protection. The Chairman of ICRP is to present the medal.
The report Principles for Protection of the Patient in Diagnostic Radiology was approved by the Commission for publication as Summary of Current ICRP Principles of the Patient in Diagnostic Radiology.
An update of the ICRP Main body membership for 1989-1993 was confirmed and submitted to the International Society of Radiology.
The report Age-dependent doses to members of the public from intakes of radionuclides Part 1 was adopted for publication provided additional clarifications are made to the main body of the report.
The following reports were reviewed and sections will be incorporated in the main text of the new ICRP recommendations:
• Reference Radiations
• Revision of ICRP Publication 40
• Revision of the basic recommendations
The Commission received progress updates from the Committees:
C1- The Scientific Secretary reminded Dr. Sinclair of need to send draft reports from the TGs on Cancer and Genetic Risks and Skin to reach Commission TG.
C2- The Commission agreed that C2 should proceed towards preparing new ALI’s once new recommendations become available in draft form.
C3- A simplified version of Protection of the Worker in Nuclear medicine is slated for release.
C4- H J Dunster summarised a response of Committee members to the conceptual changes proposed in the new recommendations.
The Commission agreed that irradiation from members of public visiting individuals receiving therapeutic radiation treatments could be covered by the use of the subsidiary dose limit of 5 mSV a year.
