2014-03-17

Effective March 17, 2014, Dr Nobuyuki Hamada joins ICRP in the position of Assistant Scientific Secretary. Llike his predecessor, he comes to ICRP as a cost-free expert loaned by the CRIEPI Radiation Safety Research Centre. CRIEPI is the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry of Japan (www.denken.or.jp/en/), a non-profit foundation engaged in research and development funded primarily by Japanese electric power companies.

Dr Hamada received his doctorate from Nagasaki University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is an accomplished researcher, having published 74 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, and is the recipient of the 2013 Michael Fry Research Award from the US Radiation Research Society and 14 awards from Japanese societies.

Dr Hamada succeeds Michiya Sasaki, the first ICRP Assistant Scientific Secretary, whose term continues to Friday March 21, providing one week of overlap to facilitate a smooth handover.
