Bo Lindell had a central role in the history of ICRP.  He was Scientific Secretary 1957-1962, was a member of the Main Commission 1962-1985, and served as the ICRP Chair 1977-1985. He made many important contributions to ICRP, including a key role in the creation of ICRP recommendations in Publication 26, the central concepts of which remain nearly the same today. His contribution to ICRP and radiological protection is remembered in part through the only award bestowed by ICRP: The Bo Lindell Medal for the Promotion of Radiological Protection.

Bo Lindell was a central figure in radiological protection for several decades, a keen observer of the times, and an avid author. His seminal work was the four-book series The History of Radiation, Radioactivity, and Radiological Protection. These were published in Swedish between 1996 and 2011.

Now his first book, Pandora's Box (Part 1: The Time Before World War II) is now available in English.

Thanks to the Nordic Society for Radiation Protection (NSFS), Nordic Nuclear Safety Research (NKS), the five Nordic regulatory authorities, IRPA, and a small but dedicated volunteer editorial board, Pandora's Box can be purchased as a paperback at a very reasonable price through Amazon.com (or other Amazon websites by searching "Lindell Pandora"), or downloaded for free in pdf form from the NSFS and NKS websites.
