Picitured from L-R: ICRP Scientific Secretary & CEO Christopher Clement, ICRP Chair Werner Rühm, UNSCEAR Chair Sarah Baatout, and UNSCEAR Secretary Borislava Batandjieva-Metcalf
During the 71st session of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) in Vienna, Austria last month, senior officials met to sign a formal agreement between ICRP and UNSCEAR. While the two organisations have been in formal relations for decades, this new agreement aims to strenghten the ongoing collaboration as ICRP works towards updating its General Recommendations for the System of Radiological Protection.
UNSCEAR Secretary Borislava Batandjieva-Metcalf recognized this as “an important step towards continuing efforts for the development of future international radiation protection framework based on independent and objective radiation science”.
