Today, Health Canada announced their intention to support ICRP’s initiative to make their publications, save for the most recent rolling two years, free to access for everyone around the world.
Health Canada’s commitment has targeted ICRP Publication 126: Radiological Protection against Radon Exposure, which will be free to access immediately.
Brian Ahier, Director of the Radiation Protection Bureau for Health Canada stated, “Radon is the number-one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Health Canada’s National Radon Program is committed to reducing radon-induced lung cancer risk to the public, and ICRP’s recommendations on radon in Publication 126 are essential to achieving that goal.”
A long-time supporter of ICRP, Health Canada has continually shown leadership in the advancement of the System of Radiological Protection around the world. This contribution brings the Free the Annals initiative past 85% of the way to securing the €500,000 needed to free the Annals of the ICRP.
