ICRP Announces Upcoming Nomination Process for 2025-2029 Term

2024-10-17

[Ottawa, 17 October 2024] – The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) is excited to announce that the nomination window for its 2025-2029 (1 July 2025 - 30 June 2029) term will open in mid-to-late November 2024. During this period, nominees will have the opportunity to be considered for elected positions on the Main Commission and four standing Committees.

When the nomination window opens in November, those wishing to submit nominations must include the names of two nominators, a detailed nominee profile, and a brief CV outlining the nominee’s accomplishments and relevant experience for the group(s) they are being nominated to serve. The deadline for submission will be 31 January 2025, but early submission is strongly recommended to allow time for any necessary updates or adjustments.

Elections are scheduled for mid-March 2025 and will determine membership for the Main Commission and Committees 1 (Effects), 2 (Dose), 3 (Medicine), and 4 (Application) for the 2025-2029 term. Elected members will play a crucial role in advancing the review and revision of the System of Radiological Protection, helping to shape the next General Recommendations (an updated version of ICRP Publication 103) which will influence global policies and guidelines for the decades ahead.

Serving on ICRP the Main Commission or Committees is a voluntary role, where members contribute as independent experts, not representing their home organisation or state. The Main Commission meets twice annually in person, while Committees convene once per year in person. In odd-numbered years, the second Main Commission meeting and each Committee’s annual meeting are held during ICRP’s biennial symposium. The first in-person meetings for the new term will take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, before and after ICRP 2025, the 8th International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection (6-9 October 2025).

As an independent charity, ICRP encourages elected members to secure travel and accommodation support from their employers or the organisations hosting the respective meeting. However, a modest budget is available to assist those unable to obtain financial support for their participation.

Further details on submitting nomination packages will be available soon. For any questions or inquiries, please contact Kelsey Cloutier, Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Communications.
